A little bit about the name

So how did I come to obtain the nickname "Dr. Dredd"? I was a med student at the time, doing what was known as an acting internship. (4th year, students are interns in all but name and are given increasing amounts of responsibility). We did this rotation in pairs, and my partner and I were... enthusiastic. We got ourselves in over our heads a few times, not realizing when to call for help, and I would often come into rounds after overnight call with blood all over my scrubs.

So I'm not sure the name was meant to be complimentary, but I'm using it with pride anyway! I've mellowed in my older years, anyway. I work in a primary care clinic one day a week, and do a lot of clinical research. :-)

Moving progress

OK, let me fill "yinz" in on what's been going on in my life. Right now, I'm a 34 year-old woman who's been in school or professional training for waaaay too long. Between public school, college, med school, residency, and fellowship, it's been 29 years!

So the good news is: I got a real job. (And there was much rejoicing.) Now that I'm finished with my geriatric psychiatry research fellowship, I was offered a faculty position in geriatrics at the University of Rochester. I bought a house (went to closing last week), and the movers are coming this Thursday to haul all my junk from my old apartment in Pittsburgh to my new place. (And there's plenty of junk! I tend to be a bit of a pack rat.)

More on the new job later...

My first post!

Cool. I've never had a blog before. I mostly post stuff on my livejournal account. This should be fun!
